María José joined the IAE team in late 2019 and is currently working in a a handful of multi-family projects in Newark. Architecture is her passion, she has international academic training and two years of professional architectural experience in two of the most influential architectural firms in her home country, Guatemala as well as working as a freelance architect. She has worked in a varied range of building typologies including residential, commercial, institutional projects and master plans. In 2016, she was granted the Duke of Grafton Scholarship for her MA Architecture studies in London where she specialized in Cultural Identity and Globalization.
Her professional interests include design and concept development, urban planning, research by design and context/cultural awareness design challenges. Outside of the office María José (Majo) enjoys spending time with her family and with her dogs, traveling, attending classical music concerts, playing the piano, going on long walks and eating great food.
