Kinnelon Company #2 Firehouse
Kinnelon, NJ | 2012
New 5000sqft 3 Bay Firehouse with Second Floor Mezzanine
Located in a historic lake community in Morris County, the new Kinnelon Company #2 Firehouse takes the place of a blighted and undersized facility which could no longer accommodate the larger, modern day fire apparatus and an expanding volunteer fire department. The densely wooded context, home to many historic log cabins, presented the use of many contextual and natural materials. The new firehouse responds directly to this context by the use of natural wood and stone materials while implementing a distinctly modern a design, fitting for its time. The facility contains various building integrated fire service training capabilities such as a rope rescue and repelling equipment simulator and a ladder training prop. The facility also includes high efficiency mechanical equipment and building envelope design.
