Market Fair

Camden, NJ | 2010

Info

Adaptive reuse of The New Jersey Safe Deposit & Security Trust Building former bank and office building as a mixed use redevelopment.

Market Fair is a unique project combining historic rehabilitation with new construction in two Camden neighborhoods to provide 71 units of affordable rental housing to low and very low-income seniors and formerly homeless veterans and over 7,000 square feet of commercial space. In addition to providing a housing asset for the Fairview and downtown Camden neighborhoods, this project will preserve one of NJ’s historic assets, the New Jersey Safe Deposit and Trust Company building. The building – listed on the National Register of Historic Places – has been vacant for nearly 25 years and has been named one of NJ’s “Most Endangered Buildings” due to its steady deterioration. The project will completely renovate the Bank building and adapt it for residential use while remaining sensitive to its distinctive historic traits, and will create 35 units of rental housing for seniors and over 3,000 square feet of retail. Building on RPM’s previous success in revitalizing Fairview’s Yorkship Square, this project will also provide 36 units of affordable units for seniors in the historic Fairview neighborhood of Camden. Inglese Architecture and Engineering provided all civil, architectural, structural, and MEP design services as well as construction administration services.
