Richardson Lofts

Newark, NJ | 2012

Info

Adaptive reuse of a former jewelry factory into an 8 story, 67 affordable and market rate unit building in downtown Newark. The project included the addition of 2 penthouse levels.

The Richardson Lofts project included the conversion of a historic jewelry factory
into an eight-story, 67-unit project in downtown Newark that provides high quality
rental housing to households with a range of incomes. The restoration of the existing
steel spiral staircase is just one design detail that reinvents the building’s industrial character. Open floor plans, lofted ceilings, a rooftop garden, and spectacular views of New York City and downtown Newark add to the appeal of the building, which was built with an energy-efficient design according to EPA Energy-Star Program requirements and incorporated a number of sustainability measures that qualify
it for LEED certification. This mixed-income project is one of many that work to
revitalize former industrial buildings in Newark, opening the same year as another
rehabilitation project, Studebaker Lofts mixed-income project further up Broad Street.
Richardson Lofts is at the heart of downtown Newark. This impressive structure celebrates its historic past, with a grand spiral staircase and open atrium, and embraces the area’s bright future with two new stories featuring modern penthouse duplexes. All apartments in Richardson Lofts include thoughtfully-designed layouts and modern features
